THE CORPSMAN
(THE BLOOD OF
BATTLE)
He knelt beside the child and watched him die,
Too many times he took this place before.
But still his feelings ran down from his eye,
As he cursed the bitter want of useless War.
He held the soldier's hand, until he passed,
at least the child didn't die alone.
Another priceless sacrifice, so young.
Another son, would not be going home.
The Corpsman stopped just long enough to cry,
then he hurried to the next who called for aid.
Again he knelt to watch another die.
"It's over now, no need to be afraid."
The blood of battle always warm and red,
yet it turns cold quickly, once the soul is dead.
The Corpsman tried his best to ease the pain,
Yet forever in his heart it shall remain.
He never will forgive the reasons why,
he had to kneel and watch those children die.
He can't forget the worthless cause of War,
The quest of Government for having more.
"People don't start Wars, Governments do."
